How should invasive plants be controlled?

REMEMBER - the web is yours to explore!
The following steps and resources will guide you towards the successful completion of this WebQuest.

Class #1
  1. First, you will be put into groups of four that have been pre-determined by the teacher.

  2. Before you look at any of the resources, spend a few minutes discussing your initial ideas and looking over the 'Questions to Consider'.

  3. Check out the resources listed below as a group. You can also go through the resources individually or in pairs, as long as you highlight important information for your group members.

  4. As your group begins to form a position on weed control, search the internet for other resources that support your ideas and will give strength to your arguments.

  5. Using any format you wish, create a short presentation (approximately 5 minutes) that makes your answer to the question "How should invasive plants be controlled?" clear and persuasive. This could be a poster, a PowerPoint, a video, etc.

  6. As a group, consider arguments that your peers could raise against your position to prepare for the debate.

  7. If you feel you will need longer than 15 extra minutes to complete your presentation, you will have to do some work outside of class time.

Class #2
  1. You will have exactly 15 minutes at the start of class to finish up and go over your presentations.

  2. Email a copy of your presentation to the teacher.

  3. Groups will present one at a time in a randomly determined order.

  4. While each group is presenting, individually jot down any points you would like to debate about. Remember that the debate will follow the presentations, so please save your comments and show each group respect during their presentation.

  5. The teacher will guide the class debate. Remember that scientifically sound arguments outweigh emotional responses.

5. Each group member should contribute at least one thought to the debate - if a little more time is needed at the start of next class (<15 minutes), we will continue.
